Description
This is the only block built of a plan drawn by Viana de Lima according to the principles of the “Athens Charter”, it was considered Public Interest Monument in 2013. Drawn from the street and with a sculpture-like entrance canopy that contrasts with the “rationalism” of the façade, the building organizes the dwellings from a short central gallery in the manner of Le Corbusier’s “L’Unité d’Habitation” [Housing Units]. The apartments reveals one of the Portuguese architects more involved with modern architecture, as we can see also in the façade where the glass brick, the brick and the protruding balconies alternate as modules.
