Description
Central building in Siza’s career and National Monument, it is placed below the quota of the road, heading for the sea. Taking in a more geometric expression than in other experiences, the use of the concrete in plain sigh with sharp corners gained iconographic status. The Piscina das Marés shows us Siza confronting himself with the limitations of the “third way”, that aspired to a meeting between tradition and the modern. Anchoring the volume of the changing rooms and cafeteria in the existing wall, Siza draws the pools by meeting the rocks, in dialogue mode. Notice how the sand and the water are turned into architecture.
