Description

An important figure in the modernization of Porto in the beginning of the 20th Century, Marques da Silva is the author of several buildings with an important urban function. That is the case of the S. Bento Station and also the S. João Theatre, which helps to organize the irregularity of the Batalha Square. Taking hold of part of the theatre destroyed by a fire in 1908, the new building has a stone decorated façade and an indoor structure in reinforced concrete. Visit the room and the backstage of this National Monument with an “Italian theatre” and access spaces articulated similarly to the ones in the Paris Opera.
