Description

Risen near the primitive wall of the city during the 15th Century, this building is the first headquarters of municipal power. In it, 24 representatives of the trades of Porto would gather – this fact gave it its name. It stopped being used by the end of the 18th Century and, in 1875, a violent fire destroyed it completely. Fernando Távora’s project gave back the volume to the tower, with a contemporary reinterpretation. We propose a visit to this controversial building as a counterpoint to the historicist version of the nearby Medieval Tower.
