Description
The history of the monastery is forever linked to the military conquests of the city, having been the barrack of the Wellington troops in 1808 in the preparation of the attack to the city of Porto, then occupied by the forces of Napoleon, and liberal troops base during the Siege of Porto (1832-33). Classified as 1st class war council by D. Maria II in 1835, this Monastery held several artillery units since then. Today the 5th Artillery Regiment runs the part used by the army, whose barracks we propose you to visit.
